Claude Artifact Comments: Who Can Comment, and How to Get Feedback From Clients (2026)
By Marcin, founder of Markloop · Last verified 1 October 2026 against Anthropic's help center and the Claude Code docs
Short answer: yes, if you're signed in to Claude and have Commenter or Can edit access (for a Claude Code artifact, any access inside your organization): teammates, or outside people invited by email who have a Claude account. Invited outsiders can't comment on an artifact that's also shared with "Anyone with the link", and people who only have a public Claude Code link can't see or add comments, so a client without a Claude account can't comment at all. For that, publish the artifact's HTML to a tool like Markloop, where anyone with the link can comment and Claude pulls the comments back.

Which rules apply to you
Claude has two kinds of artifacts, and their comments work differently. (For the full map, including legacy chat artifacts, see Claude artifacts: what they are and how to use them.)
- You work in Claude chat or Cowork: your pages, dashboards, docs, slides and designs are artifacts in the Claude app. They live in the Artifacts tab and use access levels.
- You work in Claude Code: Claude Code publishes pages from a coding session to a claude.ai URL. Their comments are built for teams, and Claude can read and answer the threads.
Comments on artifacts in the Claude app
Every artifact starts private. When you share it, each person usually gets one of three access levels (some artifact types offer only Can view and Can edit):
| Access | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Can view | Open the artifact and read its comments |
| Commenter | Everything above, plus add comments and download files the artifact offers |
| Can edit | Everything above, plus make changes |
Who you can give that access to depends on your plan and on how you share:
- Only people invited and Anyone at your organization - Team and Enterprise.
- Anyone with the link - Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise (not Free), but "anyone" means anyone signed in to Claude. On Team and Enterprise it's available only when an Owner has turned on External sharing or allowed that artifact. Artifacts that connect to your apps or use Claude can't use it.
- Invite by email (beta) - Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Up to 50 people from outside your organization per artifact. Each invitee needs a Claude account with the exact email you invited, and pending invites expire after 30 days. Email invites are on by default on Team and off on Enterprise. Documents made with Claude Docs can't be shared this way.
Outside people you invite get less than your teammates. They "can't mention people or ask Claude in a comment, and they don't get email notifications about comments," and parts of the artifact that use Claude or your connectors don't work for them. Most important: people invited as Commenter or Can edit can't comment on an artifact that's also shared with "Anyone with the link". If you want their comments, leave link sharing off.
Comments on Claude Code artifacts
Claude Code artifacts have their own comment threads, and Claude can take part in them. What the docs say:
- Team and Enterprise only, shared inside your organization. "When you share an artifact within your organization, the people you share it with can leave comments on the page." You need Claude Code v2.1.221 or later. On Pro and Max, a public link is the only way to share a Claude Code artifact, so those artifacts can't collect comments.
- Claude reads the comments when you ask. Give it the URL:
Read the comments on https://claude.ai/code/artifact/… and make the changes the commenters ask for. - Or a teammate sends a thread to Claude. Someone who can edit the artifact uses Send to Claude or mentions
@claudein a thread. Claude can reply to or resolve only threads activated this way. - Claude can reply on its own (v2.1.228 or later) while your session runs: it reads the thread, replies, and edits the artifact if the comment asks for a change, depending on your permission mode. It stops replying on its own after 60 sent comments or thread activations on one artifact within an hour.
- Public links don't show comments. "If you share an artifact publicly, people whose only access is the public link don't see its comments and can't add any." Existing threads stay on the artifact, and you and its editors can still read and reply to them.
Clients and anyone without a Claude account
Claude's comments are built for people inside Claude: your team, and outsiders who have a Claude account and accept an email invite. That covers internal reviews. It doesn't cover the usual client case: you send a proposal, spec or report to someone who has never used Claude and won't sign up to leave three comments.
| You want to… | Claude's built-in comments | Markloop |
|---|---|---|
| Get comments from teammates on Team/Enterprise | ✓ works well | ✓ |
| Have Claude answer comments on its own while you're away | ✓ in Claude Code | ✗ your AI reads them when you ask |
| Get comments from a client with no Claude account | ✗ | ✓ they type a name to comment |
| Share by link and still collect comments | ✗ people with only the link can't comment | ✓ link with comments on |
| Pull comments into another AI (ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Grok) | ✗ Claude only | ✓ |
| Keep the same link across versions | ✓ | ✓ |
| Extra cost | ✓ included in your Claude plan | Solo $19/mo, Team $49/mo, reviewers never pay |
Inside one Claude Team or Enterprise organization, native comments cover your teammates, and you don't need anything else for that. Markloop is for people outside the org, or for when your AI isn't Claude.
Getting a client's comments back into Claude
An artifact is an HTML page underneath, so ask Claude for it as one HTML file, or let Claude publish it for you: Publish this Q3 report to my Markloop project as a new document. Turn on comments for the share link and send it to your client. When the comments are in, ask Claude to pull them: it updates the report, marks which comments it addressed, and publishes version 2 at the same link.
No setup needed to try it: download the HTML file your AI made and upload it to Markloop. Or connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Grok once (setup is a one-time step, shown in the app after signup) and ask your AI to publish. Watch the 2-minute walkthrough.
In Claude Code, connecting is one command:
claude mcp add --transport http markloop https://app.markloop.io/api/mcp
For a full round with a client, from the first draft to the next version, see how to write a client proposal with AI and get comments on one link. The FAQ covers who can see your link and where your data lives.
FAQ
Can someone without a Claude account open a shared artifact?
Usually not. Artifacts shared from the Claude app need a Claude account to open, even with the link. The exceptions are a legacy chat artifact published with "Publish" and a public Claude Code link, which anyone can view without signing in. Neither one takes comments.
What happens to people I invited if I stop sharing?
On Team and Enterprise, if you change who can open the artifact to "Only you", everyone you invited from outside your organization loses access and their invitations are removed. On Pro and Max, people you invited keep their access when you switch to "Only you", so remove them one by one in the Share menu. Deleting the artifact removes everyone's access.
Why can't Claude read the comments on my Claude Code artifact?
Check that your Claude Code version is v2.1.221 or later and that the artifact is shared inside your organization, since that's how comments get added (people who only have the public link can't add any). In the first session after you install or upgrade Claude Code, Claude may not be able to read comments yet: start a new session and ask again. Also check that feature-flag fetching isn't turned off, since Claude Code needs it to watch for comments.
We're on Claude Team. Do we need Markloop?
Not for reviews inside your organization: native comments cover teammates, and in Claude Code, Claude can answer the threads. Markloop is for rounds with clients or partners outside the org, or when the doc comes from ChatGPT, Cursor or another AI. Reviewers never pay and don't take a seat. Team is $49/mo for up to 5 people, Solo $19/mo for one, with a 14-day trial and no card.
Your client doesn't have a Claude account?
Publish the artifact to Markloop from Claude, send one link they can comment on, and pull the comments straight back into your chat.
